What counts as a character
- Usernames may use letters, numbers and underscores; no spaces, dots or hyphens.
- The @ sign is not part of the count.
- Display names can use spaces, accents and emoji.
Best length vs the maximum
- Shorter handles are easier to mention: others have less to type and more room in their own posts.
- Match your handle across platforms if you can; check Instagram’s limit of 30 and TikTok’s of 24.
