How to use the username generator
- Optionally type your name, a nickname or a few words you like: a hobby, a pet, a favorite food. Separate them with commas or spaces.
- Pick a style. Each one uses its own word lists, from sleek one-word combinations to playful, fantasy or work-ready names.
- Under Options, set the length and choose whether to add numbers or underscores.
- Tap a name to copy it. Star the ones you like: favorites are kept in this browser. Press New ideas (or Space) for 30 more.
The six styles
- Cool: calm, confident pairs such as MidnightFalcon or CobaltDrift.
- Cute: soft and friendly, in lowercase: sunnymochi, peachybean.
- Gamer: punchy names with gaming energy and classic numbers like 7, 99 or 1337.
- Professional: clean, lowercase handles for work, portfolios and newsletters, such as hellomaya or mayawrites when you add your name.
- Funny: silly combinations like SoggyWaffle or WobblyLlama.
- Fantasy: names for role-playing and games, such as ArcaneWarden or SageOfTheVale.
Username rules on popular platforms
Every name here uses only letters, numbers and underscores, which nearly every site accepts. Length limits differ, so set the range to match where you will use it:
| Platform | Length | Allowed characters |
|---|---|---|
| up to 30 | Letters, numbers, periods, underscores | |
| X (Twitter) | 4 to 15 | Letters, numbers, underscores |
| TikTok | 2 to 24 | Letters, numbers, periods, underscores |
| Twitch | 4 to 25 | Letters, numbers, underscores |
| Discord | 2 to 32 | Lowercase letters, numbers, periods, underscores |
| 3 to 20 | Letters, numbers, hyphens, underscores |
Platforms change their rules now and then, so check the sign-up page if a name is refused.
What makes a good username
- Easy to say and spell. If you have to explain it out loud, it is too hard. Avoid swapping letters for look-alike numbers unless it is the style you want.
- The same everywhere. Pick something short enough for the strictest platform you use (X allows only 15 characters), so people find you by one name.
- Private enough. Leave out your full name, birth year or town if you would rather stay hard to find.
- Built to last. A name tied to your age or a passing trend can feel dated in a few years.
- Short on ideas? The random word generator is good for sparking new combinations.
Questions and answers
Does it check whether a username is available?
No. Availability is checked by each platform at sign-up, and checking would mean sending your ideas to other sites. Generate a few favorites, then try them on the platform you want.
Where are my favorites saved?
In this browser only, in its local storage. They are not uploaded. Copy them all with one button if you want to keep them somewhere else.
Do I need to enter my name?
No. Without keywords you get names made only from the word lists. If you add your name or other words, they are used only in your browser to build ideas.
Are the names family friendly?
Yes. The word lists are written by hand and leave out rude and offensive words, so the generator is fine to use in a classroom.
How do I make a name more unique?
Add a word that is personal to you, such as a hobby or a pet’s name, switch on numbers, or combine two styles: generate in one style and swap in a word from another.
Can I use underscores or keep it letters only?
Both. Switch underscores and numbers on or off under Options, and set the shortest and longest length you want.
