Online notepad
Write, and it is saved. Keep as many notes as you like, right here in your browser, with no account and nothing uploaded.
How the notepad works
Just start typing. Every note is saved in your browser a moment after you stop, and the notes list keeps the most recent one at the top. The first line of a note becomes its title, or you can give it a title of your own at the top. Click New note for another, search to find words in any note, and download a note as a .txt file whenever you like.
There is no account and no server. That makes the notepad fast and private, but it also means the notes exist only in this browser, on this device.
Keep your notes safe
- They stay here: notes are kept in your browser’s local storage for this site. They are not uploaded, so we cannot see them, and we cannot restore them either.
- What removes them: clearing your browsing data or site data, using a private or incognito window (notes vanish when it closes), or a browser that clears data for sites you have not visited for a while, which Safari can do.
- Back up: use Download all notes to get every note as a .txt file in one .zip. Do it now and then, and always before clearing your browser.
- Size: browsers allow each site about 5 MB of local storage, which is several million characters: far more than most people write in notes.
Tips for writing here
- Focus mode fills the screen with just your note. Press Esc to come back.
- Shortcuts: Ctrl+S (⌘S) downloads the note you are writing; Alt+N starts a new note.
- Monospace and text size live in the toolbar, for code snippets or for reading across the room.
- Open the notepad in two tabs and changes show up in both.
- Need a word count with reading time and readability? Paste your note into the word counter.
Questions and answers
Are my notes private?
Yes. They are stored only in your browser on this device, and nothing you type is sent to us or anyone else. Anyone who uses this browser profile can open them, so do not keep passwords here.
Will my notes still be here tomorrow?
Yes, as long as you use the same browser on the same device and do not clear its site data. Private windows forget notes when they close. Download a backup of anything important.
Can I see my notes on another device?
Not automatically: there is no account or sync. Download your notes on one device and open them on the other, or keep important notes in a synced app.
How do I back up or move all my notes?
Click “Download all notes (.zip)” under the notes list. You get one .txt file per note, named after its title.
Can I format text with bold or lists?
The notepad is plain text, which keeps it fast and makes every note easy to paste anywhere. Use simple marks like • or - for lists.
I deleted a note by mistake. Can I get it back?
Right after deleting, press Undo in the message at the bottom of the screen. After that message goes away, the note is gone.
